June is one of the most exciting times of year for home growers. With warm temperatures finally settling in across Ontario, now is an ideal time to move cannabis clones outdoors and let nature do the rest.
Cannabis is a seasonal plant that thrives during the long days of summer, growing larger and stronger throughout the season before naturally transitioning into flowering as daylight hours shorten toward the fall harvest period.

Whether this is your first grow or your fifth, here are a few simple tips to help your clones get off to a healthy start.
Choose a Sunny Location
Cannabis plants love sunlight. Aim for a location that receives at least 6-8 hours of direct sun each day, with more being even better. The more sunlight your plant receives, the larger and healthier it can become throughout the growing season.

If possible, select a spot that also offers some protection from strong winds, especially while your clone is still young.
Transplant Into Quality Soil
If your clone is still in its starter container, it’s time to give those roots more room to grow. Whether planting directly into the ground or into a larger outdoor pot, use a quality soil designed for vegetables, herbs, or outdoor garden plants.
Loosen the soil before planting and water thoroughly after transplanting to help reduce stress on the young plant.

Water Consistently
One of the most common mistakes new growers make is overwatering.
A good rule of thumb is to water deeply when the top inch of soil feels dry. During hot summer weather, outdoor plants may require more frequent watering, while cooler or rainy periods may require less.
The goal is moist soil, not constantly soaked soil.

Feed Your Plants
As your clone begins actively growing, it will benefit from occasional feeding. A balanced garden fertilizer or one designed for vegetative growth can help support strong stems, healthy leaves, and vigorous development throughout the summer.
Always follow the feeding instructions on the product label and remember that less is often more.
Keep an Eye Out for Pests
Outdoor plants share their environment with insects, birds, and other wildlife. Check your plants regularly for signs of pest activity, such as holes in leaves or unusual discoloration.
Catching problems early makes them much easier to manage.

Be Patient and Enjoy the Process
One of the best parts of growing cannabis outdoors is watching your plant transform over the season. With sunlight, water, and a little attention, a small clone can grow into an impressive plant by harvest time. We also run an annual growing contest – click HERE to read the rules and enter your own plant by the end of October!

Growing your own cannabis is rewarding, educational, and a great way to connect with the gardening season. Start your clone off right this June, and you’ll be setting yourself up for a successful outdoor grow all summer long.
Happy growing!
