Coming Together for a Cause: Our Day at the 45th Annual Terry Fox Run

On Sunday, September 14, 2025, CAFE was proud to join thousands of Canadians in honour of Terry Fox’s legacy by participating in the 45th Annual Terry Fox Run. Our team set up a booth right at the start/finish line in CityPlace, Canoe Landing Park (downtown Toronto), and spent a vibrant morning serving coffee, cheering on runners, and celebrating community.

A Canadian Tradition of Hope

When Terry Fox embarked on his “Marathon of Hope” in 1980 with a single leg, he aimed to raise awareness and funds for cancer research. After his passing, the Terry Fox Run was launched in 1981 as an enduring tribute. Today, the event spans over 650 communities across Canada (and is part of the world’s largest one-day fundraiser for cancer research) and has raised hundreds of millions of dollars toward cancer research efforts.

The Terry Fox Run takes place each September across Canada.

The Morning in Toronto

The day began promptly at 9 a.m. as runners checked in at the registration desk. Following a warm-up session and opening remarks, participants took off on a 5 km loop around Canoe Landing Park, tracing winding paths and green spaces under a clear September sky.

Meanwhile, at our CAFE booth, we brewed and handed out fresh hot coffee all morning long. Many runners and supporters paused by for a warm cup, fueling themselves before and after the run. The aroma of coffee mixed with the energy of the event — it felt like an essential complement to the spirit of the run.

Once the race concluded, participants lingered: chatting with neighbours, snapping photos with friends and family, and soaking in a shared sense of accomplishment. It was a moment to pause, reflect, and feel the strength of community around a meaningful cause.

Why It Matters

Every year, the Terry Fox Run reminds us of how individual courage can ignite collective action. By providing a space for people to come together, move their bodies, donate, and remember Terry’s mission, this event continues to translate hope into real impact. Our presence at the start/finish line was more than symbolic — it was a small way for us to serve, support, and engage with our community in action.

Community in action.

We are deeply grateful to every runner, volunteer, and supporter who made this day possible. The energy, determination, and compassion that filled Canoe Landing Park reaffirmed that when we unite, we amplify our ability to affect change.

We look forward to participating again next year — and continuing to breathe new life into the legacy Terry began so many decades ago.

All smiles for a great cause!
