Weed Sesh Etiquette 101

Are you new to smoking cannabis or merely curious about weed sesh etiquette? Then this is the article for you!

Regardless of whether or not you’re new to cannabis, there are specific etiquette rules that everyone should be following when they sit down to enjoy a session with their friends or even strangers. It’s these unwritten sesh rules and sesh etiquette guidelines that ensure that everyone has a great time and the session doesn’t turn into complete anarchy! In the following article, we’ll take a look at the more common sesh etiquette rules and how you can avoid breaking them!

Roller’s Rights Are Key!

The first thing that you need to know about sesh etiquette is that roller’s rights are crucial! What are the roller’s rights? If you take the time to roll the joint, then it’s your right as the roller to take the first hit of the joint. Unless the roller has given you permission to take the first hit and light the joint, then it’s always up to the roller to exercise their right to smash that joint first.

If you don’t know how to roll a joint and you’re tired of mission out on that first hit, then perhaps it’s time that you took a few minutes to learn the art of rolling for yourself.

Always Pass to the Left!

There’s some exciting tradition regarding whether you should pass to the left or right in a session. It’s believed that the tradition of passing to the left started with Rastafarians who would pass left in times of peace and right in times of war. There was also a song released called passed the dutchie, which was quickly taken up by cannabis users around the world. If you always pass to the left, it also means you don’t have to worry about trying to keep track of who’s turn it is!

Puff Puff Pass is Where It’s At!

The key to any good session is keeping that joint moving around the circle or group, and to accomplish that, the motto puff puff pass is a good one to remember. As it suggests, take a puff or two and then pass it to the next person. That joint isn’t a microphone or a pointing stick, so don’t use it as one. If you’re in the middle of a great story or want to tell a tale, then take a hit of the joint and then pass it to the next person before continuing your epic adventure. People may look and sound like they’re all interested in the story, but they are probably just waiting for you to pass that dry herb to the next person in line.

Fixing the Canoe!

When it’s your turn to take a hit on the joint, you’re also responsible for repairing the canoe. What’s the canoe? When the joint isn’t burning evenly, it can make the end of the joint flare out and look like a canoe. When the joint reaches you, you are responsible for making sure that the tip of the joint is burning evenly before passing it to the next person in line.

The same applies if there is a build-up of ash on the joint. Don’t pass that joint and leave the ash to fall into the lap of the next person in line. Ash it and pass it, people!

Respect Your Limits

As more and more people start smoking cannabis, growers worldwide are looking for different ways to create more potent strains of weed. What you usually smoke may not be the same as what your friends are packing, so you must understand your limits and know what it is that you’re smoking.

Start slowly in any session and learn what you’re smoking and how strong it is before you go down a deep rabbit hole that will leave you greening out. There’s nothing more embarrassing than greening out in front of a group of friends or strangers. There’s nothing wrong with being lightweight, and in the end, it’s going to save you a lot of embarrassment if you learn to say no and skip a few hits in the session.

Sesh Etiquette Conclusion

There you go! There’s the basic weed session etiquette that every smoker should know before they sit down to share a joint with friends. As cannabis becomes more mainstream and countries worldwide, including Canada, legalize cannabis for recreational purposes, it’s more important than ever to ensure that everyone knows the session etiquette rules.

These session etiquette rules are universally accepted in almost every country in the world, and you’ll always find yourself on the right side of a session if you keep them in mind.
